What is SEO?
SEO is an acronym that stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of trying to ensure search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and others can make use of specific words and phrases relevant to your site--that you define--to improve people's likelihood of finding your site when they search on those terms.
SEO and SiteFarm
SiteFarm has several levels of SEO, from an overarching global group of settings to more granular settings available at a page-by-page basis. In this page's instructions, the Frontpage SEO is just one part of the larger Metatag section under Search and Metadata, making this just the tip of the iceberg. How granular you decide to get is completely up to you.
Settings your Frontpage SEO settings
- Using your admin panel, navigate to Shortcuts » SiteFarm Config » Frontpage SEO.
- Make use of the Basic Tags, which include Page title, Description, Abstract, and Keywords.
- Click the Save button to finish.
Things to keep in mind
- These settings are global and therefore affect all your content.
- Page title: The text to display in the title bar of a visitor's web browser when they view this page. This meta tag may also be used as the title of the page when a visitor bookmarks or favorites this page. It is common to append '[site:name]' to the end of this, so the site's name is automatically added.
- Description and/or Abstract: A brief and concise summary of the page's content, preferably 150 characters or less. The description meta tag may be used by search engines to display a snippet about the page in search results.
- Keywords: A comma-separated list of keywords about the page. This meta tag is not supported by most search engines anymore.
